Myers will now spend the rest of his life in prison with no possibility for parole.
Authorities said Myers broke into Nelson's home when she was there alone with her son. He tied her up, but she was able to get free and stab Myers before he killed her. Investigators said she was trying to save her son, who Myers then kidnapped.
Myers dropped off the boy, then four-years-old, at a Columbus-area rest stop.
During Friday's hearing, Nelson's husband, Eddie, told Myers, "You are hated. I hope you sleep well every night knowing the fact that you are in (my son's) dreams. You are the monster in his nightmares."
Myers' defense attorney Michael Pentecost said his defendant accepts responsibility for his actions. "He's been told he is a demon and a monster all of his life, and he understands that and he understands what he did was monstrous."
In a statement to the court, Myers blamed a bad upbringing for his problems, specifically that he grew up without a mom.
Eddie Nelson said, "The fact that you grew up in a broken home gave you no right to break (my son's)."
Had the case gone to trial, Myers could have faced the death penalty, however Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck said everyone involved decided to spare the family more trauma.
"It eliminates this child, the four-year-old, as well as the surviving husband to go through a trial and possibly testify," Heck said.
In addition to life without parole, the judge sentenced Myers to an additional 49 years in prison for other charges associated with the crime.
Myers has 30 days to appeal his sentence.
