“We all watch movies. What’s a better way to reach people than through media,” Mauck said. “This is something we feel like we are supposed to do.”
Mauck plays a pilot named Rose Cornell. The film documents the struggles of her brother, Seth Cornell, as he becomes addicted to gambling, and the challenges Cornell faced because of his addiction. Mauck said gambling addiction was a problem for many men in the 1940’s, the time period depicted in the film.
Mauck said her character struggles with whether her brother’s gambling addiction is her fault, his fault or God’s fault.
She said in the end, her character comes to the realization that God still loves her and she can not control the choices her brother makes.
Mauck said it was thanks to an Internet search that the production group came to Urbana. She said the company was looking for a 1940’s airport hanger and came across Grimes Field Airport.
“It just caught on. This is where we ended up,” Mauck said.
The movie crew will wrap up its shooting in Urbana this weekend and then will head to Yellow Springs to shoot some scenes at a Bed and Breakfast, Mauck said.
Mauck said the film should be completed by the end of this year or early next year.
She said KICKS Flicks will then hold as many premieres as it can in Ohio and Texas. The group hopes to get the movie into as many Christian book stores as possible.
KICKS Flicks is a ministry outreach of KICKS Ministries & Victory Harvest Church (a 501c3 organization) in Sunbury, Ohio, according to its website.
