Cleveland hero Charles Ramsey is former Central State student

Charles Ramsey, the Cleveland hero who helped rescue three women and a girl from captivity, attended Central State University for one semester in 1989.

According to university officials, Ramsey - who was propelled to fame last week with his role in rescuing three Cleveland women - attended CSU in the fall of 1989. He took typical freshman classes during his tenure at CSU like health, mathematics and student orientation, school officials said.

On May 6, Ramsey helped free Amanda Berry and her young daughter, from the home of Ariel Castro, who allegedly held her captive for over 10 years. After he called police they found two other women, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight also in the home.

Afterwards, the former Marauder’s TV interview and his ultra raw 9-1-1 call on Berry’s behalf went viral, having garnished over one million views across Internet websites.

“The university applauds Mr. Ramsey for his courageous efforts to save those young women,” CSU spokeswoman Dr. Gayle Barge said Monday.
