CONFIRMED: 2 new restaurants coming to Mall at Fairfield Commons

Two more new restaurants are coming to the Mall at Fairfield Commons before the end of the year.

Mall officials confirmed they have finalized a deal with Flyboys Deli, which operates a restaurant in Oakwood, to open a second location this fall near the Beavercreek mall's front entrance. And a new Asian restaurant called Asian Too is gearing up to open in August in the mall's food court, in space that previously housed Cajun Ming.

The additions are part of a surge of dining options at the Mall at Fairfield Commons that include the recent openings of Melt Bar & Grilled, FUSIAN, Gyro King and Sbarro Pizza. In addition, the owners of the now-closed Max & Erma’s restaurant in front of the mall are working to convert the space to a different restaurant concept, MacKenzie River Pizza Grill Pub. The mall earlier had added BRAVO Cucina Italiano, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse and Chuy’s Tex Mex.

“To meet shopper demand, we continue to evolve to deliver the right combination of retailers, dining, entertainment and events to keep shoppers engaged and returning often,” Kristie Miller, general manager at The Mall at Fairfield Commons, said in a statement.

Flyboys Deli founder Steve Crandall told this news outlet that the “need and desire to support military families close to their home at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base” was the defining factor in the decision to add a second location at the Mall at Fairfield Commons. Mall officials said Flyboys Deli has begun construction of a 7,403-square-foot restaurant outside of the mall’s main entrance.

“We are often asked to support larger parties than our beloved first location in Oakwood could support, hence the need to expand,” Crandall said.

The new Beavercreek Flyboys will feature an aviation theme similar to its Oakwood location, and will be able to host parties and events, and also will offer catering, Crandall said. The Oakwood restaurant, located at 2515 Far Hills Ave., will remain open.

“We plan to support our many customers in both Oakwood and Beavercreek,” Crandall said. “We hope to open in October, with over 40 new jobs.”

Crandall, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, and his wife Eunice Kim opened Flyboys Deli in January 2013.

Flyboy's Deli was a reader favorite in Dayton.com's Best of 2016 Best of Dayton, winning the online vote for "Best Deli," "Best Place for a Business Lunch," "Best Sandwich" (for its Liberty Reuben) and "Best Secret Menu Item" (for its Philly Beer Cheesesteak). And it placed second in "Friendliest Staff/Best Customer Service."

Here’s what mall officials said about the new Asian restaurant coming to the food court:

“Asian Too is a pan-Asian, fast casual concept serving an expertly prepared cuisine from recipes that span the Asian continent. The menu includes appetizers, rice/noodle platters, entrees as well as fresh made sushi and more. The company currently has six other Asian Too restaurants, spanning from Boston to Texas, and are looking to open even more locations across the Midwest.”
