Accused fast food thief in jail on $50K bond

MIDDLETOWN — The man accused of robbing a fast food restaurant last weekend is in the city jail on a $50,000 bond.

Daniel Green, 56, of Central Avenue, was arraigned in Middletown Municipal Court Friday morning for robbery, a second-degree felony. Police said he stole an undisclosed amount of cash and coupons from Captain D’s, 804 S. Breiel Blvd., after he pinned an employee against the wall.

Green turned himself in to police Thursday morning. Middletown police Lt. Scott Reeve said an acquaintance saw his photo on MiddletownJournal.com and convinced him to turn himself into police.

Police said Green ordered a large drink at the restaurant and was about to leave the store when he turned around and ordered another drink. He allegedly attempted to reach for the money when the cash register drawer opened, authorities said.

The employee closed the drawer immediately, but then Green allegedly went behind the counter and held the employee against the wall, authorities said. During the robbery, the assistant manager saw the incident from the back and called 911.

A weapon was not displayed during the robbery, but the employee said, according to the police report, he “felt a small object in the small of his back. He believed it to be a gun.”

Reeve said Green had been arrested in June in connection with a similar crime in Cincinnati.

Green is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing in municipal court July 20.
