Three men were arrested Monday in connection with the crime but no charges have been filed for Turner's death.
Deanevans Fuduloff, 33, Randall Miller, 43, and Austen Naylor, 29, were booked into Montgomery County Jail. Fuduloff faces possible charges of abduction and burglary while Miller and Naylor each face a potential count of burglary, officials said.
"Our detectives have been up since Sunday morning and they're still working and interviewing people," said Maj. Daryl Wilson of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. "We're still piecing it together."
The case marks the first homicide investigation of 2014 for the Sheriff's department. There were 52 homicide cases across Montgomery County last year, including three under the Sheriff's jurisdiction, Wilson said.
The three suspects are no strangers to law enforcement, according to Wilson. He said they had each been picked up on drug-related crimes in the past and that several deputies "knew them by name."
Witnesses identified the three suspects, as well as the unnamed beating victim who was expected to be okay, Wilson said.
"Apparently he was beaten with a blunt object," Wilson said of the assault victim.
The Grandview Medical Center staff initially contacted Dayton police when an unidentified person dropped the victims off at the hospital. But the Sheriff's office took over the case after officials determined that the crime occurred in the county and not in the city of Dayton, Wilson said.
The men were taken against their will from a home in the 500 block of Burgess Avenue and transported to another location where they were assaulted. The victims were not residents of the home but were known to hang out there, investigators said. Wilson declined to give specifics about second location.
Detectives are unclear about the events that led to the brutal incident but they're confident the victims knew their attackers.
"We're not sure if it was a debt owed or what," Wilson said. "It's not like it's some random abduction, we believe they were acquaintances. We're trying to figure out exactly why it escalated to someone dying and someone getting beat."
Turner's official cause of death is still unknown, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office. They confirmed that he was still alive when he arrived at the hospital.
Deputies and police surrounded the home on Burgess Avenue Sunday afternoon while they waited for a search warrant. Neighbors on that street said the were frightened once they found out what the investigation had revealed.
"It's pretty scary," 15-year resident Tracy Geaslen said. "A couple of my kids overheard and they were a little bit worried to go to sleep."
Fuduloff, Miller and Naylor won't face official charges until a review by the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office, which is expected this week.
