3 arrested for attempted meth smuggling into Wayne County Jail

Three people were arrested Thursday after the Wayne County Drug Task Force and Wayne County Sheriff’s Department intercepted plans to smuggle drugs into Wayne County Jail.

Investigators received information that someone was planning to smuggle drugs into the jail by trafficking them to an inmate waiting for a hearing at the Wayne County Courthouse.

Investigators, with the assistance of courthouse security, set up surveillance and witnessed the drug transaction. They immediately intervened, seized evidence and arrested those involved.

Those arrested include Dillon Fultz, 27, of Richmond, charged with dealing methamphetamine; Loren Hatfield, 34, of Richmond, for possession of and dealing methamphetamine; and Lanny Fultz, 45, of Richmond, for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver. Lanny Fultz was the inmate involved in the alleged smuggling operation, according to the sheriff’s department.

Investigation is continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
