2 arrested for drugs after traffic stop in Dayton

Dayton police found crack cocaine inside a car that pulled away from a gas station without stopping.

Officers initiated a traffic stop, pulling over the driver, 54-year-old Roy Stepp Jr., when he didn't stop at the sidewalk before turning onto the 4100 block of East Third Street.

According to a police report, officers watched as his passenger Marianne Jones, 23, leaned forward in her seat for three seconds before police approached the car.

Officers asked to search the green Chevrolet Lumina, and Stepp gave them permission.

Officers say they found crack cocaine inside the passenger side door handle, on the passenger seat, and under both the driver and passenger seats.

Police say one baggie was filled with pieces of toilet paper rolled into a ball. Officers say Jones told them she uses it as ear plugs.

Police say Jones admitted to using heroin the day before.

Stepp denied using heroin, and said the drugs police found don't belong to him.

Officers arrested Jones and Stepp. They're being held in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of drug possession and drug paraphernalia.
