Cincinnati Shooting: Fund gifts $1.2M to Fifth Third Bank victims

The National Compassion Fund has gifted $1.2 million to more than 30 people directly affected by the September 2018 deadly shooting at Fifth Third Bank Center.

The "Cincinnati Strong Victims Fund" was created in October, led by a dozen community, philanthropic and business leaders across the community following the Sept. 6 attack. Donations came from companies and individuals last fall, according to the National Compassion Fund, a subsidiary of the National Center for Victims of Crime.

Three people were killed in the shooting reported around 9:10 a.m. in the lobby of the Fifth Third Bank Center, 511 Walnut St., on Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati.

The shooter, armed with enough ammunition to kill 30 to 40 people, was dressed in a business suit and carried a backpack as he entered through the building’s loading dock. Four officers responded within 3 minutes of the call and shot the gunman dead through a glass window of the bank lobby, officials said.
