Cyanide found in downtown Urbana building

The owner of a vacant downtown building under renovation found old bottles of cyanide in the basement.

The building, 21 Monument Square, in downtown Urbana is taped off today.

Fire officials determined the cyanide was left over from a jewelry business that used to operate in the building.

A hazardous materials crew will remove the five, small bottles of cyanide from the building later this week, the building owner said.

No one was injured.
