Darke County sheriff's narcotics unit nets 2 arrests

Another drug buy coordinated by the Darke County sheriff's narcotics unit yielded two more arrests Wednesday in its ongoing buy/bust operation.

Michelle Middaugh, 46, of Union City, Ohio, and James Spencer, 37, of Union City, Ind., are in the Darke County Jail on charges involving more than 20 capsules of heroin, Detective Sgt. Chris Clark said.

Middaugh and Spencer were arrested in the operation by the narcotics unit, along with sheriff's deputies and Union City, Ohio, police, in the 100 block of East Spearmint Street in Union City, Ohio, the sheriff's office said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon.

Both are being detained, awaiting the filing of trafficking and drug possession.

Middaugh was arrested a year ago on drug charges involving heroin, Clark said, and she is still on probation for that offense.

Wednesday's two arrests by the narcotics unit follows the arrests of three people six days ago, on July 10, on drug charges involving heroin. In that buy/bust operation, Brandy Young, 20, of Englewood; James Reed, 24, of Vandalia; and Aaren Shiffler, 20, of Dayton were taken into custody at a Martin Street address.

Young was charged with attempted prostitution as well, according to the sheriff's office.
