Dayton man charged in deadly shooting on Manhattan Avenue

A Dayton man is facing murder charges in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man on Manhattan Avenue Friday, according to Dayton Municipal Court records.

Anthony Eugene Gause, 31, was charged with two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, one count of tampering with evidence and one count of discharge of a firearm near a prohibited premise.

He is accused of shooting and killing Jayven Torren Kilgore following a fight, according to a court affidavit.

The incident began in the 900 block of Manhattan Avenue, when Kilgore and another man on the scene got into an argument.

Kilgore reportedly attempted to run from the area after the argument moved to outside the home.

A second man attempted to stop Kilgore from running away, but was not successful.

The first man, Gause and a third man were able to catch up to Kilgore, according to the affidavit.

During a fight between Kilgore and the third man, Gause struck Kilgore in the face with a handgun, the affidavit read.

Kilgore then reportedly escaped across the street and continued to run from the group.

As Kilgore was running away, Gause told detectives he fired at least two rounds at him,  according to the affidavit.

Gause reportedly tossed the handgun in an unknown location after the shooting.

Gause was arrested in the 2200 block of Emerson Avenue around 3:40 p.m. Friday, according to jail booking records.
