24 Dayton police officers killed in the line of duty since 1800s

Since 1880, 24 Dayton police officers have died in the line of duty, stemming from gunfire, crashes and other causes.

A Dayton police officer was shot Monday night while serving a search warrant and is in critical condition.

Dayton officer Mary Lynn Beall was the last officer killed by gunfire in 2002.
