Deputies find illegal alien and drugs in traffic stop

An illegal alien in the United States from Mexico was arrested in Miami County over the weekend.

Miami County deputies stopped a vehicle without incident on State Route 201 near Huber Heights for having a light out on the rear license plate.

Upon investigation, deputies learned the driver, Gerardo Zaragoza, 35, and living in Riverside, was in the U.S. illegally.

The Miami County Sheriffs Office says deputies seized one pound of suspected marijuana from the vehicle.

Zaragoza is being held in the Miami County Jail on a $125,000 bond and faces charges of trafficking in drugs and permitting drug abuse in a motor vehicle.

The incident is under investigation.
