Police and medics were called Friday night to a disturbance inside Mamma DiSalvo’s Italian Ristorante.

A woman sitting at the bar asked a bartender at the restaurant, 1375 E. Stroop Road, to call the police around 8 p.m. when the man she was with left to visit the restroom. When he emerged and saw police, he ran toward the back of the restaurant but then charged the officers, knocking over tables and patrons, police said.

The man, who police said is believed to have been impaired by drugs or alcohol, also fought with police before he could be subdued with a Taser and tackled before he was taken to jail.

Multiple police and medics responded. An adult and child at the restaurant suffered unknown injuries and two officers suffered minor injuries during the fray.

Kettering police did not release the name of the suspect. However, 24-year-old Justin Anthony Sawitke was arrested at the Stroop Road restaurant and booked into the Montgomery County Jail for felonious assault and a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, though he is not formally charged with felonious assault, online jail records show.
