Driver flees without vehicle after crashing into fire hydrant

Police are investigating after a driver fled the scene of an accident near the intersection of Nicholas Road and McArthur Avenue.

According to officers on scene, the gray Chevrolet Malibu struck a fire hydrant before driving into some bushes. The driver left the vehicle behind and fled the scene before police arrived.

Police said that they believed alcohol likely was a factor in the crash, although they could not be sure without finding the driver.

This incident remains under investigation.
