Jeff Bedinger was apprehended Friday after a three-car accident in Sugarcreek Twp. He faces charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping and abduction. The sequence of events left unanswered questions for Brandon’s loved ones.
“Why Brandon?” Haskins said of what he would ask Bedinger. “Why did you have to shoot my son?”
Haskins of Kettering said his son was moving into the apartment with his mother, Kimberly Bedinger, and her other son, Zane. Haskins said he believes that Jeff Bedinger was not welcome at the Towne Park Drive address .
“I believe he went to shoot Kim,” Haskins said. “He pointed the gun at Brandon and shot him ... (Brandon) was doing work. He was on the computer.”
Keith Haskins was a single father when he started raising Brandon at the age of 2. He would take Brandon to church with him at Far Hills Baptist .
“(Brandon) loved the Lord,” Haskins said. “He was a happy person ... He was just born a good egg.”
Brandon left to live with his mother at age 12, he said. At the time, Kimberly Bedinger had been married to Jeff Bedinger for about a year. Haskins described Jeff Bedinger as being authoritative but said he was never told by Kimberly or Brandon that he was physically abusive.
Brandon was baptized and became an active member of Ginghamsburg Church after he started living with his mother. “He loved kids and old people,” Haskins said.
Besides his mother, father and Zane, Brandon Haskins is survived by his stepmother Sandy Haskins and sisters Ashley, 14; Sara, 12; and Aimee, 9.
