The 13-year-old girl escaped Wednesday night according to Toledo police, and her two alleged captors were arrested — a father and son — Timothy Ciboro, 53, and Esten Ciboro, 27.
Once in the custody of police, the details of the girl’s captivity came to light.
According to Toledo Municipal Court documents, the girl claims she was shackled to a basement beam by her ankle with handcuffs or large leg irons. The home is located on Noble Street in Toledo.
She told police she was forced to eat spoiled, scraps of food, and to use the restroom in a bucket filled with ammonia.
After a year of captivity, she told police she was able to obtain and hide a key to the handcuffs. She made her escape late Wednesday night, according to Toledo police Lt. Joe Heffernan, and the girl was spotted on Water Street by a citizen her first called Timothy Ciboro, who hung up; then the citizen called police.
When officers arrived on Noble Street, the Ciboro’s were attempting to leave with two of Timothy’s young sons. The father and son were taken in to custody. They were found with Timothy’s two younger sons and a gun. The two children were put in the care of Children’s Services.
Police searched the home and found evidence supporting the girl’s claim.
Both men are facing charges of kidnapping and child endangering with specifications of torture, cruelty, abuse and to terrorize and inflict serious physical harm.
They are being held on a $500,000 bond in the Lucas County Jail.
