Inmate accused of stealing Montgomery County Jail cruiser back in custody

A Montgomery County Jail inmate who stole a jail cruiser in Dayton Wednesday evening is back in custody, according to a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office representative.

The identity of the inmate was not released and it was not clear if they are facing additional charges.

The cruiser was recovered, according to the sheriff’s office.

A deputy who was injured during the incident and taken to the hospital by a Dayton police officer was treated and released.

The inmate reportedly stole the cruiser while being transported by a deputy around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
