Jeep rear ends vehicle, woman sent to the hospital

MIDDLETOWN — A Franklin woman was sent to the hospital with an apparent back injury after a Jeep Liberty rear ended the Ford Focus she was in.

Just after noon on Friday, the Ford Focus, driven by Linda Kuykendall was stopped at a traffic light on South Main Street at First Avenue. When the light turned green, and before she could accelerate, Kuykendall’s vehicle was struck from behind by the Jeep, according to Officer Chris Alfrey.

The Jeep was driven by Annette Johnson of Middletown and the officer said she was traveling about 30 miles per hour when it collided with the stationary vehicle.

“It destroyed that Ford Focus,” Alfrey said of the result of the crash.

Kuykendall was transported to Atrium Medical Hospital by ambulance, and Alfrey said her injury does not appear to be life threatening. Johnson has been cited for assured clear distance ahead.

The accident blocked northbound traffic on South Main Street from Second Street to First Street until the scene was cleared at 12:30 p.m.
