Man charged with arson after Englewood house fire

UPDATE @ 11:20 p.m. (June 20):

A 59-year-old man is accused of intentionally setting fire to his Englewood residence earlier this month.

Joseph Reece Johnson was indicted Tuesday for aggravated arson and vandalism, both felony charges, in connection to a June 8 house fire in the 400 block of Nies Avenue.

Johnson is no longer in jail.

FIRST REPORT (June 8):

A 59-year-old man is in jail tonight, accused of setting fire to a house in the 400 block of Nies Avenue in Englewood.

Joseph Reece Johnson was arrested on suspicion of arson and is in the Montgomery County Jail awaiting the filing of formal charges, online jail records show.

Crews were called around 1 p.m. to Nies Avenue, where smoke and fire was coming from the back of a single-story brick house, according to reports.

Firefighters were quickly able to knock down the fire, and there were no reports of injuries, according to Englewood dispatchers.
