Man indicted for pornographic video of an infant

A 32-year-old man has been indicted by a Butler County grand jury for having a pornographic video of children as young as an infant to about 6 years old and multiple pornographic images on his cell phone.

Joshua Paul Roach, who was living at a Lebanon address at the time of his arrest on Jan. 20, is in the Butler County Jail under a $45,000 bond. He is facing a 20-count indictment of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, all second-degree felonies.

If convicted, Roach is facing a two- to eight-year prison term on each charge.

Roach’s case was bound over to the grand jury from Middletown Municipal Court following a Jan. 30 preliminary hearing.

“I’ve been doing this for awhile and this is pretty awful stuff,” said Middletown police Detective Fred Shuemake, who has investigated child pornography cases for 13 years. “I don’t think I saw a kid that was over 6 years of age and there were also some infants.”

Of the images seen, he said 49 qualified as being child pornography.

Shuemake said he’s investigated and has seen a lot of child pornography, but Roach’s images and video were “among the worst.”

Shuemake said he has no reason to believe the children are from this area.

Shuemake said Roach showed his girlfriend the video and indicated to her that he wanted her to bring a 6-year-old relative to spend the night to engage in this activity.

According to an initial police report, Roach’s former live-in girlfriend found the child pornography on his cell phone that she had in her possession and wanted detectives to look at it.

Shuemake said Roach, and his former live-in girlfriend had returned from living in North Carolina before he was arrested for domestic violence

That charge was elevated to a felony because of a prior domestic violence offense in February 2001 in Middletown.

Roach, who has also lived in the Middletown and Miamisburg areas, also has a 2009 conviction for attempted drug abuse.

No arraignment date has been set for Roach in Butler County Common Pleas Court.
