Man indicted in March fatal shooting

Family sets up memorial for victim at scene of the incident.

Michael J. Martin, 58, has been indicted on charges of murder, felonious assault and improper handling of a firearm, by a Montgomery County grand jury. He’s accused in the shooting death of Gary Tisdale in late March.

In total, Martin faces two counts murder; four counts felonious assault; and single counts of having weapons under disability, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

All the counts, expect for weapons under disability and improper handling of a firearm, have three- and five-year firearm specifications.

Martin remains in Montgomery County Jail and will be arraigned April 12 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

UPDATE @ 9:28 a.m. (March 29):

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office has approved official charges for the man suspected in the shooting death of Gary Lamar Tisdale.

Michael J. Martin, 58, has been charged with two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of having weapons under disability, according to the prosecutor’s office.

UPDATE @ 7:14 p.m. (March 28): An arrest has been made in the weekend shooting death of Gary Lamar Tisdale.

Dayton police confirm Michael J. Martin, 58, is the suspect the that shooting on Saturday. Martin was booked into Montgomery County Jail early Sunday on charges of felonious assault, carrying concealed weapon and having weapons as a convicted felon.

Tisdale’s relatives have set up a memorial to him, featuring balloons, at the scene of the incident.

The victim in Dayton’s latest homicide has been identified as 38-year-old Gary Lamar Tisdale, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

A 40-year-old man was fatally shot tonight during an argument with another man, Dayton police Lt. Bill Keller said.

Police and medics were called around 9:30 p.m. to James H. McGee Boulevard and West Third Street.

“There was a dispute some blocks over … and one guy shot the other guy in the chest,” Keller said. “He drove away in his car with a couple passengers and due to his injuries, he crashed. At this point he has passed.”

Police are not identifying the victim, and also are not identifying the suspect, whom Keller said may turn himself in. The two passengers in the victim’s black car were not injured and were being interviewed by police.

Police have three scenes, including one area where a shell casing was found and a second spot where the victim tried to get away and hit a curb so hard the left front tire was sheared off, the lieutenant said. At the third scene, a flatbed truck was called to tow the victim’s car.

UPDATE @ 10:13 p.m.: A gunshot victim has died tonight.

The shooting reported at James H. McGee and West Third Street is a homicide, the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center confirmed, and the gunshot victim was not taken to a local hospital.
