Neighbor arrested after bullet fired into apartment

After a bullet was fired from one apartment into another, police busted through a door to check the welfare of the occupant and ended up arresting a drug suspect.

Craig Allen Cortner III, 24, is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of drug possession and obstructing official business, according to the Dayton police report.

Cortner was taken into custody at his apartment in the 4400 block of Germantown Street. Police responded there after 911 calls were received from the neighbor’s apartment reporting a bullet was fired into their kitchen, according to the report.

Officers couldn’t get a response from Courtner’s apartment, and fearing someone was shot inside, they busted in and found three males hiding in the bedroom, according to the report.

Police said no one had been shot, but officers found marijuana packaged for sale and heroin stashed on Cortner, who had a warrant out for his arrest.

There was evidence a bullet was fired into the adjacent apartment, but no explanation was provided in the report.
