The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Springfield Post, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s OVI task force are stopping cars from 8 p.m. to midnight on U.S. 40 just east of U.S. 68.

Patrols in the area of the checkpoint also will be looking for impaired drivers, according to the highway patrol.

State law requires that OVI checkpoint information be announced ahead of time. The checkpoint is funded through federal grants.

The state highway patrol recommends if someone plans on drinking alcohol to have a designated driver.

“Don’t let a life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired,” the patrol stated in a news release.
