Police blotter

VANDALIA (MARCH 8) – A Vandalia woman reported to police she loaned her vehicle to her ex-husband in mid-December. After trying for several weeks to get him to return the vehicle, the woman said she had been unsuccessful.

TROY (MARCH 22) – A driver denied trying to elude a pursuing Miami County sheriff’s deputy by turning off on side streets, claiming he was pulling off County Road 25A between Troy and Tipp City because his car was making a “funny sound.” The deputy said she attempted to stop the vehicle around 6:30 p.m. when it was seen driving 79 mph in a 45 mph zone. Instead of stopping, the vehicle turned off into a residential area and down a couple of streets before coming to a stop. The driver was charged with speeding, reckless operation and failure to comply.

TIPP CITY (MARCH 20) – A woman was charged with filing a false police report after she reported that her vehicle was struck by another vehicle that left the scene at South Hyatt Street and Evanston Road. Tipp City police said the investigation showed that the driver wet off the road and hit a pole and fence. The woman then admitted she had lied. In addition to filing the false report, the woman was charged with failure to control a motor vehicle.

ENGLEWOOD (MARCH 17) – Police charged a man with disorderly conduct after an encounter with another motorist and allegedly threatening to shoot people at the intersection of Union and West Wenger roads. The man was apprehended in a nearby store with an asp baton on his belt. He and a woman who had been in the car with him were intoxicated, police said. No one was injured.

CONOVER (MARCH 24) – A Conover area woman reported to Miami County sheriff’s deputies that her African Sulcata turtle was missing from her property. She said she and her husband put the turtle in a fenced area behind their residence before leaving for a couple of hours. When they returned, the turtle was gone.
