3 in custody after Springfield police chase accused of shooting, carjacking man

UPDATE @ 11:15 p.m.:

A male and two females are in custody, accused of shooting a man in before taking his car and then crashing during a high-speed pursuit while trying to evade arrest, Springfield police Lt. Matt Buynak said.

The gunshot victim’s Ford Focus was taken about 9:45 p.m. in the 200 block of Raffensperger Avenue. He reportedly was shot in the leg and was taken to a local hospital.

Police spotted the stolen car in the area of Elder and Buckeye streets, and the pursuit began. The suspects crashed in the area of Ludlow and Sheridan avenues.

The females stayed in the car and were arrested there, the lieutenant said.

Police captured the male in the area of Lexington Avenue, near Linwood Avenue.

The names of the suspects were not available.

Police and medics were called Tuesday night to a report of a shooting.

A man was shot in the leg around 9:45 p.m. in the 200 block of Raffensperger Avenue in Springfield, and police were called to investigate.
