Urbana man arrested on drug, weapons charges after raid

UPDATE @ 6:13 p.m.:

The suspect arrested following a raid at an Urbana Twp. home was identified as 43-year-old Michael D. Ropp, according to Champaign County Sheriff Matt Melvin.

Ropp was booked this evening into the Tri-County Jail on suspicion of aggravated drug trafficking; aggravated possession of drugs; weapons under disability stemming from a previous indictment out of Greene County for felonious assault; tampering with evidence; and unlawful possession of dangerous ordinance, according to the sheriff. He is being held without bond awaiting arraignment.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office, Springfield Police Division, Shelby County Sheriffs Office and Clark County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at the home in Urbana Twp. about 8:16 a.m., Melvin said in a release Thursday evening.

FIRST REPORT

The Champaign County Sheriff’s office executed a search warrant in the 400 block of Dallas Road in Urbana Thursday afternoon. The warrant dealt with drugs and weapons, officials said.

Sheriff Matt Melvin said authorities seized narcotics, cash and weapons. He said the investigation is ongoing, and no further information was immediately available Thursday afternoon.
