Sigma Alpha Epsilon violates fire codes

OXFORD — The Ohio Tau Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at Miami University has been found responsible for violating the Code of Student Conduct, Section 113 (Disorderly conduct).

In April it was reported that a bale of straw on the patio of the fraternity house caught fire due to discarded smoking materials, causing smoke to fill upstairs rooms of the building. During the investigation of that incident, the Oxford fire chief discovered other violations of city fire codes.

Notice was sent to the fraternity by the office of ethics and conflict resolution on April 23. Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity accepted responsibility for the violation.

The following sanctions have been imposed on the fraternity:

The fraternity is required to obtain a signed statement from the Oxford fire chief indicating full compliance with city fire codes.
