Springfield man charged in glass mug assault

A Springfield man has been indicted in an assault with a glass mug that left a man in critical condition.

The Clark County grand jury approved two counts of felonious assault against 20-year-old Michael Stapleton.

The charges stem from a March 23 fight on Wogaman Drive in New Carlisle.

The male victim, who was initially in critical condition, was struck in the head with a glass beer mug, according to his mother.

Stapleton told investigators the fight was over a disagreement about his sister, 21-year-old Danielle Stapleton.

The grand jury chose not to indict Danielle, who was also arrested on suspicion of obstructing official business.

The victim has since been released from the hospital.Stapleton is being held in the Clark County Jail on $25,000 bond.
