German Twp. police were already at the school Wednesday as part of their agreement with the Northwestern School District when a student reported to staff they believed a gun might be in the building, according to reports.

Lt. Russell Garman of the German Twp. Police Department said an assistant principal removed the student believed to have the gun from class without incident. According to reports, the 15-year-old student allegedly had the gun on the bus and on school grounds, but moved the gun off school grounds as the investigation unfolded.
2. “Thought it was cool”
Russell said when he questioned the boy, he asked if he had been bullied, but the student reportedly responded that he hadn’t. When questioned why he brought the gun to school, the student reportedly said he’d found the gun at home and “thought it was cool” to bring it in to show his friends.
Police recovered the .25-caliber pistol from the student’s grandmother’s car later that evening.
3. Parents upset by delay of notice
An alert about the gun on school property wasn’t issued to parents until nearly 9 p.m. Wednesday. School leaders have said the delay was due to the investigation developing throughout the day. Several parents contacted both the school and the Springfield News-Sun asking why there was such a delay in notifying parents. Northwestern Board President Andy Gundolf said he has heard complaints, but assures parents the school worked fast to ensure student safety.
