UPDATE@8:30 p.m.: Police are checking surveillance cameras in the area of the Taco Bell restaurant, trying to find a good photo of the person who committed the robbery, Dayton Sgt. Mark Spiers said.

He said police found the cash drawers "some distance away" from the restaurant, noting, "We believe they are the two that were taken from this business."

The robber did display a black handgun, the sergeant said. "Sounds like some employees fled out the back and customers fled" through the front door... "Fortunately no one was hurt," he said.

Spiers said the robber fled in what police think may have been a maroon vehicle. We're told that vehicle could be a Buick or Oldsmobile and that there may be two other people involved in the robbery.

Anyone who has information about the robbery is asked to call police at 937-333-COPS (2677).

EARLIER: Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Taco Bell just minutes ago.

Dayton officers were dispatched to the fast food restaurant, 3130 Salem Ave., about 6:53 p.m.

We're hearing that customers who ran from the establishment have told police a gunman, wearing a bandanna over his face, jumped the counter.

We're also hearing that the manager of the business has told police two cash registers, or the drawers to those registers, were taken.

We have a crew headed to this developing story. We will update this story as we get details.
