Tools, equipment stolen from Wayne Ave. garage

Various tools and lawn equipment were stolen from a garage where the thieves used a key to get in, according to the Dayton police report.

Early Saturday morning, police were called to the 3400 block of Wayne Avenue on a report of breaking and entering that happened overnight.

When officers arrived the homeowner explained that sometime in the night someone used a key to get into the garage and stole several items, according to the report.

Police said those items included a mitre box, 10-inch circular saw, wood splitter, air compressor with 600-foot hose and a lawnmower.

The homeowner stated that a key was used to get in the garage, and a woman who was staying with a tenant who was renting out his basement had a copy of the key, according to the report.

The woman stopped living there about two weeks ago, and the homeowner theorizes she made a copy of the garage key before turning it in, according to the report.
