Trial set for Springboro teen accused of special-needs student assault

A Clearcreek Twp. teen accused of assaulting a student with special needs while another classmate recorded the incident with his cell phone is scheduled for trial in October.

The teen, 16, is charged with one count of assault in the case stemming from a May 18 incident at Springboro High School.

On Wednesday, a half-day trial was scheduled for Oct. 26 in Warren County Juvenile Court.

In May, Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell said the incident occurred after ongoing “trash talking” between the juveniles. Originally described as a fight, it was handled by authorities as an assault.

No one else has been charged in the case.

Police seized the phone used to record the incident.

The boy’s house arrest was lifted Wednesday, apparently clearing the way for him to attend school.
