Truck drives on closed road; injures ODOT worker

An ODOT worker suffered minor injuries while avoiding a pickup truck that drove on a closed road in Sugarcreek Township.

Police shut down a portion of Ohio 725 near Penewit Road after a large tree fell into the roadway, knocked down power lines, and blocked the roadway.

Officers say the tree was knocked down as a result of damage from Tuesday’s storms, and ODOT crews were requested to remove the tree from the road.

Shortly before 2 a.m. medics were requested after a pickup truck drove past the road closed sign and nearly hit workers attempting to remove the tree. One worker suffered a minor injury dodging the truck according to police.

The worker was treated on scene and not taken to a hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene and police have not identified an exact suspect vehicle.

Police say they will keep a unit near the scene while crews work to prevent a similar incident.
