Driver faces vehicular homicide charge in crash that kills girl, 3, in Greene County

A 28-year-old Xenia man is facing charges in connection to the November death of a 3-year-old girl who was unrestrained in his pickup truck that crashed.

Douglas A. Randall today pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide, endangering children, both first-degree misdemeanors, and minor misdemeanors of child restraint and right/way stop/yield sign violations, according to online Xenia Municipal Court records.

The charges stem from a Nov. 12 crash when the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Randall was headed north in his 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Paintersville New Jasper Road in Caesarcreek Twp. when he failed to yield to a pickup headed west on Hussey Road.

Randall’s passenger, 3-year-old Riley Staton, later died from her injuries at Dayton Children’s Hospital. Troopers said she was not in a child seat.

A judge today set Randall’s bond at $10,000, which he posted and is free. A jury trial is scheduled for May 25.

Since the fatal crash, Randall has been convicted of another traffic violation. On Feb. 10 he was found guilty of another right/way stop/yield sign violation, which added two points to his driver’s license, court records show.
