Woman believes social media post showing ‘large amounts of money’ led to home robbery

Three men entered a Middletown house earlier this month and robbed its residents at gunpoint, according to a .

A couple told Middletown police they were asleep in their Bellemonte Street residence at about 2:30 a.m. June 1 when the alleged robbers woke them up and demanded money.

A resident told police one of the men held a shotgun to his head and demanded to know where money was hidden, according to the police report.

The resident told the men there was cash in a tin in the bedroom. The men then took $3,000 cash and fled out the backdoor, according to the report.

Also stolen were cell phones from the couple as well as one belonging to a friend staying at the residence.

The woman said she had recently posted pictures of herself with large amounts of money on social media. The couple was saving up for a vacation to California, according to the police report.

“She believes someone observed those photos and planned the robbery,” the report states.

A police dog attempted to track the suspects, but was not successful.

he man suffered a laceration to the head, but declined medical treatment.

Middletown Police Maj. Scott Reeve said the incident is under investigation.
