UPDATE @ 10:50 a.m.:

Miami Township has released more information about the fatal pedestrian crash.

They’ve identified the driver as Donald Oliver, 57, of Kettering. He was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala southbound on SR 741 near Dahlia Drive. The victim, Natasha R. Dawson, 30, was in the roadway picking up a lost cellphone. She was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman reportedly had just moved from Chicago to Miamisburg. Dawson and her cousin, Ernest Bright, had just dropped off a U-Haul truck and were headed back to her new apartment to unpack. Bright told us he dropped her off to look for the phone, he parked the car.

“She found it. She stood up, had her phone, ready to go. Before anyone and anything, a car just came and hit her,” he said.

Dawson’s family said the woman served in Iraq, and had just taken a job here at a pharmacy.

We’re working to find out more about the victim and any possible charges that might be brought.

UPDATE @ 3:15 a.m.:

Troopers say a woman was attempting to locate a lost cell phone when she was hit by pizza delivery driver and killed on Springboro Pike in Miami Township.

Miami Twp. police and medics were dispatched to the area of Springboro Pike and Dahlia Drive around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on a reported crash involving a pedestrian.

Troopers say Natasha Dawson, 30, and Eugene Colter, 35, both from Miamisburg, were walking in the southbound lanes of Springboro Pike attempting to locate a cell phone that was dropped in the roadway from a moving vehicle, according to Sgt. John C. Chesser of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

According to a release, Dawson located the phone in the roadway, but was hit by a car driven by Donald Oliver, 57 of Kettering, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say Dawson was wearing dark colored clothing, and lighting was limited in the area.

“A safer way to doing it would have been to look for it in their vehicle and when they stopped, they could have turned on their hazards and got out of the vehicle and picked it up,” Chesser said. “That would have been a safer way of retrieving the cell phone.”

Causes of the crash, including alcohol involvement, are still under investigation.

Chesser adds any potential charges will be determined by the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office following the findings of the troopers’ investigation.
