A Cold Stone Creamery worker helped to thwart a robbery plot by two former employees.

An employee told her manager Saturday afternoon that a former worker, identified by police as 21-year-old Cory Harbarger, at 4 p.m. was going to rob the ice cream shop at 135 Jasper St. in Dayton. The worker said she was asked to help with the robbery by another former worker, identified by police as 25-year-old Aimee DeCarlo, and that she agreed out of fear, according to a Dayton police report.

According to the robbery plan, Harbarger was going to put a knife to the employee’s neck to make it look like a real robbery, and she was asked to not struggle and was promised she would not get hurt, the report stated.

The business was cleared of customers, and an officer helped to protect employees in the back room and police were stationed around the business. DeCarlo provided continuous updates on Harbarger’s movements to the employee’s social media account and by text message, according to the report

Harbarger did not enter Cold Stone Creamery, and DeCarlo told the employee he “got spooked because he saw police officers on every corner in the area.” Officers found Harbarger in the 700 block of Alberta Street and took him to the detective section to be interviewed. He admitted to planning a robbery, according to police.

DeCarlo was arrested around 10:15 a.m. today. Both were booked into the Montgomery County Jail on robbery and theft charges. Harbarger also faces an unrelated disorderly conduct charge and a hearing for a possible probation violation, online jail records show. The duo are scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
