WSU rape suspect in jail

Myron Walker was in a Marine boot camp when he was arrested.

A former Wright State University student is in Greene County jail on charges of rape and gross sexual imposition.

Myron Walker, 19, was arrested over the weekend in Parris Island, where he was in the middle of boot camp for the Marines.

The alleged incident took place in November in a Hawthorn Hall dormitory on Wright State’s campus.

According to a police report, Walker lured a 17-year-old female student who lived across from Walker into his room by saying he needed a toiletry item.

When she brought it to him, Walker allegedly groped her and forced himself on her sexually, according to the report. The victim later went to a local hospital for a sexual assault exam.

Investigators spoke with Walker, and he claimed the encounter was consensual.

The investigation was recently completed with DNA evidence, and authorities picked up Walker at Parris Island, S.C., and brought him back to Ohio.

“It does kind of make me happy that they’re taking action,” said Jakeya Stephens, a Wright State sophomore. “We get emails all the time, but we don’t ever hear that someone whoever did this to who got found. It shows me that at Wright State, they’re trying to take a stand.”

The case is expected to be heard by a Greene County grand jury on Wednesday.
