Demolition Approved For Parkside Homes

Gregory Johnson, executive director of the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority, announced Tuesday that the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development's Special Application Center has approved the demolition of Parkside Homes.

DMHA has received approval of its application to demolish 34 dwelling buildings containing 396 units and four non-dwelling buildings.

The next step is for DMHA to request approval to dispose of 62.68 acres of vacant land after demolition has been completed.

Officials with DMHA said they would notify the 150 families living at Parkside Homes of the approval for demolition and that other public housing will be offered or other arrangements for them would be made.

Officials said it would take up to eight months for the process to happen.
