A West Carrollton senior was among two defendants pleading not guilty Thursday to charges stemming from a lockdown of a pair of district schools following a video of a gun being pointed in the high school parking lot.

Simon Carroll, 18, of Moraine, pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence and inducing panic in connection with the Tuesday afternoon lockdowns of West Carrollton High School and Harold Schnell Elementary School, Miamisburg Municipal Court records show.

Isaiah Conner, 20, of West Carrollton, also denied those charges. He also pleaded not guilty to a count of obstructing official business, court records show.

The West Carrollton district includes parts of Miami Twp. and Moraine.

Tuesday’s lockdowns of the buildings came after the posting of a social media video of Carroll pointing what the defendants later said was a BB gun, court records show.

The video posted on Snapchat showed Carroll pointing the weapon at a van in the high school’s rear parking lot, prompting lockdowns that lasted about 30 minutes, according to municipal court documents filed Wednesday.

Both defendants were being held Thursday afternoon in the Montgomery County Jail, records show. Their next court dates are scheduled for March 16.

Carroll describes himself as a part-time student, attending school for a few mid-morning hours to fulfill graduation requirements, according to court records.

He was leaving high school for the day Tuesday when Conner picked him up, records indicate.

The schools were locked down from 1:15 to 1:43 p.m., court records show. After the lockdowns began, the two were stopped by Moraine police while riding in a vehicle in the area of Dryden Road and East Main Street. The West Carrollton Police Department arrived later.

The car was towed from the scene and a bag of marijuana was located inside it, records show.

“Carroll stated that Connor had a BB gun in his vehicle and he jokingly made a Snap Chat of him pointing the BB gun around” the parking lot, according to a statement of facts filed in court Wednesday. “Carroll said he was very sorry for what he did and apologized to the WCPD and the school.”

When Carroll and Conner heard about the lockdown, they decided to toss it into a storm drain on Lehigh Place in Moraine, according to court documents.

Conner also faces a possession of marijuana paraphernalia charge and an equipment violation in a case that is set for April 8, records indicate.
