The seat is opening after Bobbitt — who has served two terms since being elected in 2007 — failed to have the minimum number of valid signatures to have her name on the November ballot. As a result, incumbent Donald Henry was the only name to appear on the ballot for two expiring seats, prompting the vacancy.
While the board of education cannot vote to fill the seat until after it becomes vacant, the district is beginning the process now “so we’ll be all set up and ready to go” when January arrives, said West Carrollton Superintendent Rusty Clifford.
The school board cannot legally appoint someone until after its first scheduled meeting in 2016, said President Tom Wolf.
“That means there’ll be a vacancy,” he said. “There will be nobody there that night in that seat.”
Bobbitt has said she intends to apply for the job, but any qualified candidate interested in the position can express interest through this week, according to the district.
Applicants must submit a notice of intent to apply via e-mail by Friday to Clifford at rclifford@wcsd.k12.oh.us.
Applicants must be a resident of the West Carrollton school district — which includes parts of Miami Twp. and Moraine — and meet all eligibility requirements. Those requirements can be found at www.westcarrolltonschools.com under the board policies tab in Section 0140.
Selected candidates will be interviewed on Dec. 9 in an executive session, according to the district’s posting for the job.
