Greene County sent 17 deputies, five of whom responded inside the gates of Wright-Patterson.

Someone from inside the medical center in Area A called 911 about an active shooter around 12:40 p.m., setting off actions that caused the lockdown. Law enforcement responded from sheriff’s offices in Greene and Montgomery counties and police departments in Dayton, Fairborn and Huber Heights, among other agencies.
The base’s call for aid prompted “probably upwards of 100” officers in total from area jurisdictions to rush to the base while an unrelated training exercise was occurring in the Kittyhawk area of the military installation, one responding official said.

Responders from Dayton, including specially trained units such as SWAT, spent about two to 2.5 hours on the call, said Cara Zinski-Neace, DPD information specialist.
“Some” of those officers responding were working on overtime, she said, “but the vast majority of people who responded were on-duty personnel.”
