Dozens of people showed up in Troy today for a rally organized by a recent high school graduate who wants to raise awareness about racial injustice.

In response to recent events across the country that have sparked outrage and protests, Bailey Williams has been standing outside the courthouse in Troy for an hour every day for about a month.

The 18-year-old Troy High School graduate said today’s event is not a protest of Troy police or the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. It’s an event aimed at raising awareness of various issues, suich as achievement gaps between white and black children and higher rates of incarceration of black people.

“We want to get people thinking about those issues and address them because this is not the way Troy, Ohio or Miami County should be,” Williams said.

Some local leaders took to the podium during today’s event and there was a voter registration tent nearby.
