Drug Deal Gone Bad In Death Of Ansonia Man

New information is surfacing out of Indiana in the slaying of Patrick Cheadle, 53, of Ansonia.

Cheadle was reportedly shot once in the head on the night of Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, while on the outside deck of a rural Randolph County home.

Cheadle had reportedly told a friend he was looking to buy three or four pounds of marijuana from someone in Randolph County, according to TheStarPress.com of Muncie, Ind.

Terry Durbin of New Carlisle, Ind., is charged murder and robbery of Cheadle. Durbin was officially arraigned on the charges Wednesday afternoon in Randolph County Circuit Court in Winchester, according to investigators.

Durbin's alleged accomplice, David Mizner, 19, of Winchester, is also held in the murder of Cheadle.

Mizner told investigators, according to a probable cause affidavit, that he was forced to help Durbin clean up blood and move Cheadle. That night Cheadle was left in his van in the 400 block of Elm Street in Greenville.

It wasn't until three days later, the evening of Nov. 3, that Cheadle's daughter, Janice, located her father's van and found him dead inside the vehicle. Cheadle had last been heard from on the Saturday he was killed.

According to the court papers, Mizner bought two packs of cigarettes and beer and smoked marijuana to calm down on the ride back to Randolph County from Greenville. Mizner also claimed Durbin gave him $2,000 "to keep his mouth shut," out of the $13,000 Durbin had reportedly taken from Cheadle in the robbery. Durbin warned Mizner that if he told anyone about the incident, Durbin would kill him.

Mizner turned himself in to Randolph County deputies on Friday afternoon. Durbin surrendered on the day before Mizner.

Mizner is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
