Drunk man accused of vandalizing cop car

A man placed in the back of a police cruiser after he was found to be intoxicated in public faces a vandalism charge after he damaged the frame of the car’s window.

According to a police report obtained Sunday, 40-year-old Robert Byers was put into the back of a police cruiser on the 100 block of South Horton Street in Dayton so officers could issue him a citation for public intoxication. Police said they found Byers around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, and that Byers had a hard time standing up. He smelled of alcohol, according to the report.

While in the cruiser, police said he began to hit the right rear window. This ultimately damaged the window frame enough that the window fell out, police said.

Byers was booked into the Montgomery County Jail Saturday night.
