Neighbors on Gerald Drive said Wednesday they were shocked about what happened, especially Debi Sheppeard.

She’s lived on the street for 12 years, and said it is a quiet area. If there are problems, they are minor, she said. She was not home when her neighbor was stabbed but was quickly informed before she got there.

“The gentleman that was stabbed is the neighborhood grandpa. Everybody, that’s what everybody calls him, grandpa,” Sheppeard said. “He’s well known in this neighborhood. Friendly to everyone. We would have garage sales and he would come down and check us out.”

Shepperd said he’s the number one guy on the street.

She said that everyone is saying the suspect is known to the victim.

She added this makes her feel uneasy and is sad that it happened in her neighborhood. She hopes he is doing better and recovers soon.

Springfield police were in the neighborhood Wednesday asking questions. No suspect has been identified at this time.

This publication contacted the Miami Valley Hospital to inquire about the victim and was told he is a patient but could not release his condition.
