Explosive Fire Kills Xenia Township Woman

An explosive, raging fire claimed the life of a 68-year-old Xenia Township woman early Saturday morning.

Crews were called to Winding Trail around 1:40 a.m. and discovered flames shooting out of the roof.

The blaze started in a back bedroom, according to investigators. The victim, Sandy Jaynes, was in poor health and on oxygen. Family members also say Jaynes was a smoker. Early findings suggest that smoking may have ignited the blaze and several oxygen tanks inside the home fueled the fire. The state fire marshal is investigating and will determine the official cause.

Firefighters had to evacuate the home through a window after the ceiling collapsed. None of the firefighters were hurt.

"I want to thank each and every one of those guys. They're great," said Keith Jaynes, referring to the firefighters.
