Fire Heavily Damages Union City, Ohio, Business

Firefighters from seven neighboring communities responded to the call for help from the Union City, Ohio, Fire Department Friday afternoon, as flames heavily damaged Beanblossom Welding and Radiator Shop at 370 East State Route 571 in Darke County.

A Darke County deputy on routine patrol spotted heavy smoke coming from the business shortly after 2 p.m.

Fire Departments from the Indiana side of Union City, along with Ohio fire departments from Ansonia, Rossburg, Greenville, Liberty Township, New Madison and Burkettsville all responded to help.

As far as a damage estimate, Assistant Union City Fire Chief Mark Wright said, "It'll be high, into the six-digits."

When the firefighters from Union City first arrived, the metal building was engulfed in flames.

Investigators are expected to return to the scene Saturday morning, in daylight, to search for the cause of the fire.

There were no injuries.

Crews cleared the scene by 6 p.m., reopening Route 571 to traffic.
